On Saturday the Taupiri Rugby team beat the season front runners to win the WRU championship plate cup in the Division 1 plate final. It wasn’t the world cup but was still a game played between peers. The win against the odds reminded me that If you want something bad enough you will find a way to make it happen. Even more extraordinary was a young farm worker who travelled the 60 odd kms to the game but could only play in the first 40 mins. Not a problem as he set about scoring two super tries, kicked a conversion and a penalty before he returned to the farm to continue his calving duties. That small but significant act of unselfishness was the difference as his points remained the only points the team would score. To win the game Taupiri then gave everything they had to defend against relenting attacks from the best backline in the comp for 40 mins to hold on to win the game.
If there is a message to be remembered it is never ever ever give up. Any contribution you can make no matter how small will be a step closer to the goal you or your team are after.
Best wishes Ian
